Founder / Designer
Jashiki Hiroshi is an Okinawan-born textile/fashion designer who creates products that fuse traditional Okinawan dyeing and weaving with the sophisticated design sensibilities of New York, where he spends two-thirds of each year.
At the University of the Ryukyus, he studied Okinawan dyeing and weaving under the late Oshiro Shizuko, who dedicated herself to the postwar revival of Shuri-ori weaving. After graduation, he worked for three years as a specialist in intangible cultural property protection at the Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education's Culture Division, becoming deeply involved in the preservation and transmission of traditional crafts. He then studied abroad at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. Moving to New York, he accumulated 30 years of design experience in the fashion industry. During his time living in New York, he absorbed Manhattan's urban rhythm and sophisticated contemporary art.
During the 2020 pandemic, he rediscovered the potential of traditional Okinawan textiles in his Manhattan studio. He sourced vintage fabrics including Miyako-jofu, Yaeyama-jofu, and bingata, and created numerous men's shirts that utilized these materials. He also produced original printed fabrics featuring traditional Okinawan textile patterns and New York-inspired abstract designs at American factories, and created women's blouses and dresses as well. The fusion of 30 years of textile/apparel design experience with Okinawan traditional crafts gave birth to the "RYUTO DESIGN" brand. In 2025, RYUTO DESIGN's first showroom opened in Ameku, Naha City.
His vision is to create universal appeal that transcends cultural boundaries while celebrating both Okinawan tradition and New York sophistication.
